Spring is the time of love and it is here now

It is official; spring is here.

It's looked like that for a while, but I've decided that it's for real now. All the snow has finally melted and there's bird song in the air. Still waiting (unenthusiastically) for the pollen season to start though. About time, I'd say, since it's already April.

Well, it's spring here at least. Mom might tell you a different story though.

Still, I like spring. The beginning of new things, nature being reborn once more from under the heavy blanket of the long, long winter. I saw some daffodils today (planted ones, but still) and that really drove home the fact that the year is marching ever forward and that winter is really behind us now. Although, as I understood it, it's going to be an uncharacteristically cold summer, which is a bit of a bummer.

I went on a small walk around the town today, as I did yesterday too, to just look at the city. It's nice, living so close to the centre, because you don't have to go very far to find places. That sounds rather vague, doesn't it... Well, let's try it this way.

I like watching things. And people. And places. And in the city, there are plenty of places to watch. There's parks and plazas and market squares that are always bustling with people, and those are the places to go if you like to people watch. And I do.

Does that make me sound creepy? Oh well.

But yeah, I went on a walk today to people watch.

Saw a man with the tiniest dog, and an old couple feeding birds. A group of children running around and laughing. A lot of normal adults (or as normal as any person can be) going about their day. Saw a friend I haven't seen in a while, but she couldn't stop to talk since she was in a hurry at the time. Saw a very fancy older gentleman, who had at least three scarves on and a fourth one peeking out of his bag.

In my mind I came up with stories to them all, as complex and real as my own is and will be. Temporary stories, created in the moment for my own entertainment and forgotten just as quickly as I moved on. I couldn't recite any of them to you now, even if you were to ask.

Still, I like to think they were important. A way to imagine those people a little more complexly.

Where was I going with this? I can't quite remember. Oh well.

I was on a date today, too, which is why I'm writing this so late. It sounds almost weird to admit out loud, "I was on a date"... I've never been one to date much, and honestly I feel like I've only ever been on one "proper" date... though I'm not sure where the line is, which is where the problem lies. If you just go out with your partner, even if in a rather casual setting, does that constitute a date? Does it need to have a specific romantic intent? I don't know. As I said, I've never been one to date much.

Humans are... complicated, I know that much. Navigating emotions, social situations, their customs and faux pas, understanding the subtleties of human interaction... it's very difficult! I'm getting better at it, though, I think. That's what growth is, and growth is what spring is all about.

Look at that, a nice circle.

Until next week, bye~

P.S. Some of you were asking me what I've done with the ink, and sadly, I've not had time to do anything yet! Might not have for a few weeks yet, which is kind of unfortunate, since I just got it. Oh well, I'll keep you updated!

  1. Mom does tell a different story: all the snow has NOT melted, not even half of it.
