I followed the squirrel deeper into the woods. It hopped off ahead and then stopped, waiting for me to catch up again - I was considerably slower in the rough forest road - and all the while it kept singing. Sometimes I felt like I recognized to song from somewhere, but I couldn't put my finger on where, and then the feeling would go away as soon as it started. Like there were pieces in the song that I knew from another song.
I kept wondering what had happened to my life. Just two days ago I had gone to bed in my own apartment, feeling excited about December and yesterday I had been transported into a weird land with goblins and witches and magic. And now I was following a singing squirrel deep into a strange forest. Great.
But why did the squirrel insist we leave before Hizi got back? I though to myself. The squirrel was here by the witch's order and she had also insisted Hizi join me. That didn't add up. Though goblins were generally regarded in fantasy as evil, Hizi hadn't seemed all that bad. Sure, he talked too much, but he had taken me to the witch, who trusted him, and let me stay in the village and even made me breakfast. Whatever that had been. I glanced back at the direction we were coming. Everything just seemed so weird and I couldn't shake the feeling something was not right. I just didn't know who to trust.
Lost in thought, I hadn't payed enough attention to where I was going and the root of the tree came out of nowhere. I yelped as I stumbled down, face first into the dirt, and the squirrel made a high pitched noise. Then something else made a noise. Several somethings.
It all happened so fast, I still have no idea where all the... people came from. They weren't human, that much was clear, but they were mostly humanoid (with the exception of a few animal, was that a fox?) and were all wearing similar outfits. Uniforms, I though. The clothes were mostly moss green and included a hooded cape and a mask and everyone was holding some form of a weapon. I was frozen where I still laid on the ground. A dwarf, atroll, an elf, a gnome, a fox and a wolf and is that a fricking fairy? my panicked and disoriented brain supplied as my eyes darted among the group that surrounded me. One of them stepped forward - a surprisingly human shaped creature, though he had a tail with a fluffy end, big ears and feet and short fur covering his skin - and pointed his crossbow at my face. I stared at him in horror. The squirrel shrieked and jumped onto my head.
"Who are you and what is your quest?" the... troll asked me. I couldn't see his expression from underneath the mask but his voice was firm and demanding. "Well, answer me!"
"I- I just- um," I stammered. "I'm Cinnamon and I'm following the squirrel he's leading me somewhere but I don't really know where and I'm a bit lost I don't really know where I am oh God don't shoot me."
"Cinnamon?" He looked me up and down and lowered his bow. I let out the breath I had been holding. "That sounds about right." He nodded at the others and they lowered their weapons slightly.
"Who are you?" The question escaped my lips before I managed to stop it and mentally slapped myself when the one presumably their leader looked down at me again.
"We are the White Island Freedom Fighters," he said and grinned. His teeth, I noted, were much like those of a cat's. "We fight to get our independence back."

HAHA CLIFFHANGER. Idek man, I almost forgot to write this. Happy Independence Day Finland though there it's already over and here as well also. But I have 45 minutes left, hahaha.
Well, yeah. At some point you have to start fleshing out your characters. Adding little unnecessary details adds believability to a character and makes them more interesting. And twenty is a good age. It's adult, but not too old and kind of a coming-to-age age, you're twenty and I'm.. almost twenty and it seemed to fit. And you chose the name damnit, I can make up stuff too. But yeah. Details!
And who has time for a proper scrub every inch of the house cleaning on the week before Christmas, huh? You first have a proper cleaning, then keep everything nice and organized and then have a finishing off cleaning on the week leading to Christmas. And everything shines~
Nani is a funny name, because all I can think about is that in Japanese 'nani' means 'what', haha. I especially liked the part about the unclear gender traits, cookie for you. I'm going to bed now. Bye~
Pie out.
